Summary
In Ruth, print, Anne Reid Artist paints the biblical Ruth gleaning in a luminous field of cobalt blue, walking bucket by bucket toward an unknown future under a blazing orange sky. This vertical fine art print preserves the full storytelling arc of the original canvas, from the distant workers in the field to Ruth’s steady stance in the foreground.
Artwork Statement
I created Ruth while meditating on what it feels like to be faithful in the “in-between” season—after loss, before restoration. Ruth stands in the middle of the field holding her basket, somewhere between empty and full. The sky blazes like a prophetic backdrop, while the everyday work of gleaning continues all around her.
Her posture is neither defeated nor triumphant. She is simply present, moving through the field one step at a time. That was important to me. The miracle in Ruth’s story unfolds as she keeps showing up to the same field, on ordinary days, with ordinary tools. The buckets scattered in the foreground hint at repeated trips, repeated effort, and the quiet courage that accumulates over time.
The distant figures and shimmering reflections in the ground suggest community, witnesses, and the people who unknowingly stand around our turning points. My hope is that this piece meets you in your own gleaning season—when you know you cannot go back, but you cannot yet see how God will redeem what has been lost.
Color & Mood
- Deep cobalt and ultramarine blues in the field evoke prayer, perseverance, and the mystery of walking by faith.
- Intense orange and magenta in the sky carry the feeling of dawn and fire—judgment passed through, hope on the horizon.
- Warm ochres and umbers in the buckets and earth connect the scene to daily labor and provision.
- Soft whites in Ruth’s apron and skirt emphasize humility, purity, and a quiet, resolute heart.
- Overall mood: hopeful, honest, and quietly courageous—faith in motion rather than faith on a pedestal.
Design Notes
- Vertical composition that keeps Ruth’s full figure visible, from her bare feet to the line of her shoulders and gaze.
- A strong diagonal horizon leads the eye from the distant gleaners toward Ruth and her forward-moving path of buckets.
- Repetition of circular and cylindrical forms (buckets, heads, and reflections) creates rhythm and a sense of passage through time.
- Textural brushwork in the sky and field suggests wind, conversation, and unseen spiritual activity in the background.
- Subtle colour shifts in the blue ground hint at water, reflection, and the liminal space between old life and new.
Where It Works
- Living room feature wall as a conversation piece about transition, calling, and perseverance.
- Dining room or breakfast nook as a visual reminder of daily bread, hospitality, and shared provision.
- Home office or studio for those walking through long-term projects, study, or rebuilding seasons.
- Prayer room or intercession space as a “field of faithfulness” image during times of waiting.
- Church foyer, counselling room, or pastoral office that supports people processing grief, relocation, or fresh starts.
- Retreat centres, guest suites, and hospitality spaces that welcome those on spiritual journeys or life transitions.
Pairing Ideas
- Pair with Ruth Harvest 5, print to show the movement from gleaning in the field to the fullness of the sheaf—perfect for a dining room or hallway.
- Hang alongside The Apple 3, print to connect Ruth’s ground-level obedience with the “apple of His eye” cosmic perspective over Israel.
- Add Ruth & Boaz, print to complete the narrative arc—from the field of gleaning to covenant love and generational promise.

Print Options & Materials
- Fine art paper: Soft, archival paper with a subtle texture that pairs beautifully with classic framing and matting.
- Canvas gallery wrap: Ready-to-hang, painterly surface that echoes the original brushwork and texture.
- Metal print: Sleek, modern finish with luminous color—excellent for contemporary living rooms and offices.
- Acrylic face-mount: High-gloss clarity and depth that makes the blues and oranges glow, ideal for feature walls.
Bathroom suitability
Ruth, print can work well in a powder room or ensuite, especially in smaller sizes. For higher-humidity spaces, I recommend metal or acrylic for easier care, while framed paper under glass is best reserved for well-ventilated bathrooms and prayer nooks.

Integrity Notes
The original painting Ruth is an acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20 in, created in 2023 and currently available as a studio original. Ruth, print is an open edition fine art print produced from a high-resolution photograph of that canvas. The composition remains true to the original painting, preserving Ruth’s full figure, the field of gleaners, and the vivid sky. Minor adjustments in contrast and color balance have been made to ensure faithful reproduction across paper, canvas, metal, and acrylic, but no new painted elements have been added or removed. This edition is intended to honour the integrity of the original while making the image accessible to a wider circle of collectors and intercessors.
