ARTWORK STATEMENT
I painted Beautiful Suffering 3 during a season when headlines held the ache of nations. The face is blue-toned, eyes lifted, the expression caught between resignation and resolve. A crown that feels like withering thorns glints with faint gold. I wasn’t looking for sentimentality; I wanted the quiet strength of Isaiah 53—One who “took up our pain”—and Isaiah 49:6, a Servant who becomes “a light for the Gentiles.” The glory here is not decorative. It bleeds through brokenness.
My brushwork aims to reveal rather than conceal—strokes like Scripture scrawled in pigment. Layered blues, purples, and yellows suggest both bruising and illumination, a nod to Isaiah 52:14’s haunting line, “his form marred beyond human likeness.” Still, the upward gaze signals transcendence: what kings did not expect, they now witness.
Color & Mood
- Palette: ultramarine/indigo, violet, teal, with notes of gold and rose.
- Mood: contemplative, reverent, quietly triumphant.
- Viewing: reads from across the room; up close reveals layered glazing and soft transitions.
Design Notes
- Subject: contemporary sacred portrait—glory present within suffering.
- Motifs: crown/light, endurance, redemptive pain, hope.
- Composition: centered face; asymmetric color fields guiding the gaze to luminous brow and eyes.
Where It Works
- Quiet foyers, prayer rooms, chapels, counseling spaces.
- Minimal bedrooms and studies where light moves slowly.
- Hospitality/wellness settings seeking meaningful, contemplative art.
Design tip: Pair with deep indigo textiles or matte-gold accents to heighten the dialogue between bruised blue and glimmering glory.
